Twitter and Facebook Have Become George Orwell’s 1984 Thought Police
Have the Tech Giants become omnipotent?
The power of social media revolutionized the way we communicate with friends and family and others. Within seconds, everyone can be updated on the latest breaking news: celebrity gossip, current events, trade rumors surrounding sports, the stock market, and a lot more.
Frequently, these stories are found to be fake due to “fact-checking” even after being broadcasted to millions of people. We have arrived to the point where we do not know what’s real or what is fake due to political agendas, conflicting stories on social media and major news networks. Who is fact-checking the fact-checkers? The truth is becoming indistinguishable from fiction and this should raise eyebrows.
In George Orwell’s novel “1984”, the thought police are a secret group that discovers, monitors, and punishes thought crime in the dystopian super state of Oceania. The totalitarian-like police force observes the population through “telescreens”, a combination of televisions, microphones, and cameras. Little did the socialist author know that all that and so much more would be combined into a single device in 2021 — the smart phone.
Technology has become so advanced that there are algorithms that remember what posts you like, comment on, and then share that information to be used in advertisements and marketing. Alarmingly, all of this is done without your knowledge. I advise you to watch “The Social Dilemma” on Netflix to learn more. What Orwell also did not know is that Oceania can resemble modern day America.
There is no doubt that what you see on social media can impact our thoughts. The Thought Police use psychological warfare and false-flag operations to snare free thinkers or non conformists. They want the citizens of Oceania to all think the same.
This is exactly what we have seen on social media, especially from Cancel Culture, which uses social media to perpetuate a censoring agenda. Since the 2016 presidential election, every time President Trump was trending on Twitter and Facebook, it was always for something negative. Is he the equivalent to Emmanuel Goldstein, the principal enemy of the state in the novel? Probably!
After the storming of the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, President Trump was banned from the following platforms: Amazon, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Apple, Discord, Google, Reddit, Pinterest, TikTok, Shopify, Twitch, YouTube, and Snapchat.
Regardless of your political affiliation, it sets a precedent that should be questioned. If they can literally censor the leader of the free world, then what else can they do? It goes to show how powerful big tech really is and who really is in charge of our country.
Before you post on Facebook, it literally says “whats on your mind?” and tweets are basically thoughts that are transcribed digitally. You are not protected by freedom of speech when you post online, that is why you should always think before you speak and now, think before you post on the internet. Suffice it to say, our IGNORANCE really IS their STRENGTH when we agree to their terms and conditions when creating an account or updating the application.
